We have been used to say the term “WaterProof” for the wrist watches at the early days of the electronics, but now the term has been expanded even to the Smartphone world. Yes, there are plenty of mobiles made available in the market, which are capable of working fine even under the water or on its surfaces. Sony is one among the prominent mobile maker, who has been utilizing the Dust & Water Proof coating on most of its Flagship devices. However, there are certain issues surrounding the Water proof Smartphone technology and hence, Sony made some guidelines for their Water proof Smartphones.

Most of the Sony Water proof mobiles are out for delivery after testing under various circumstances. The latest release from Sony i.e. the Sony Xperia Z5 is possessed with the highest possible certification of IP68. Hence, it can withstand the water as deep as 1.5 meters for at most 30 minutes for sure.

However, there are claims made by the Smartphone users of Sony, that it is not doing fine under water. Hence, there are few guidelines changes made by Sony. This is offered at the official terms & conditions of the Xperia Support Page and is as follows.

“The IP rating of your device was achieved in laboratory conditions in standby mode, so you should not use the device underwater, such as taking pictures. Do not use the device to take photos while performing any type of activity underwater, including diving or snorkelling."

Also, Sony stated that, you can still use the Dust & Water proof technology like, you can use the mobile with wet fingers, and walk or play games on the sandy beach wind without any worry about the dust particles. You can also make photos on the wet surroundings at its best.

Sony also deliberately cautioned its users by stating, “Remember not to use the device underwater. If you accidentally get the device wet with non-fresh water, wash the device with tap water.” "Just make sure you wash off all the dust on your device using water from the tap afterwards", Sony advised for the dusty area usages.

"Sony devices that are tested for their waterproof abilities are placed gently inside a container filled with tap water and lowered to a depth of 1.5 metres. After 30 minutes in the container, the device is gently taken out and its functions and features are tested," Sony further explained about the user’s issues with the Dust & Water proof technology.

New Usage Policy & Warranty Voids:


According to the new updates from the Xperia Product support page, the new policies are subjected to take control immediately and users are requested to obey the rules at its best. The Warranty of the mobile will not be considered if you violate to latest policies from Sony. Hence, please read the terms & conditions of the mobile, especially for the “Dust & Water Proof” features.
